Your Journey

Finding genetics, navigation and other support

Genetics, fertility and pregnancy care can involve several different professionals and services. Knowing who does what can make it easier to work out who to ask about testing, healthcare, practical support or the next step.

If several services are involved

Genetics, fertility, maternity and other services may each be responsible for different parts of your care. Ask who is responsible for the next step and who you should contact between appointments. If different clinicians give different information, you can ask what is agreed, what remains uncertain and why interpretations may differ.

Public and private services may have different referral requirements, costs and waiting times. Ask whether a GP or specialist referral is needed and what current Medicare or private health rebates may apply.
